Additional support for 100 low-income households

Dear Supporters,
At AGTR we continue to support women and girls who are still facing the economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the political instability that the country has faced in recent years. In addition to our regular services for domestic workers and girls exposed to child labor, since May 2020 we have done our best to provide the most vulnerable among our beneficiaries with necessity goods, such as food baskets and hygiene kits. Although this is not our usual approach (we aim at implementing long term impact programs), we believe the circumstances require such actions.
This month we received a generous donation from the Peruvian Ministry of Justice that will allow us to provide approximately 100 low-income households with clothes, especially for girls, boys, and adolescents. Our team is processing the donation at our venue and, thanks to your continued support we will be able to deliver packages to the selected households over the next two weeks. We will share additional information on the results of this and other exceptional activities we are implementing in the coming months.
As always, we are grateful for your help and for everything we are achieving together. Thank you!
Warm regards,
Andrea Gandolfi & the AGTR Team

The "No somos Invisibles" social broadcasting team
AGTR produces the weekly social broadcasting program “No Somos Invisibles” (we are not invisible) since 2012. The program addresses issues related to the risks of child domestic labor and its consequences on the schooling of children and adolescents who work. Since 2017, it has also promoted the rights of adult domestic workers, so that employers and society in general value the important work of this sector. In the program, interviews are conducted with representatives of the State or specialists in psychological and legal counseling related to paid domestic work. No Somos Invisibles is a valuable tool for social advocacy in Peruvian society, where child labor is considered formative by many people and, despite recent legislative advances, paid domestic work work continues to be informal and not considered “real work ”. Currently the program is broadcast through AGTR's social networks, every Monday from 9pm to 10pm.
During a recent special broadcast to celebrate the ninth anniversary of the program, one of our listeners told us that: “No Somos Invisibles is a very interesting and very valuable program for all domestic workers, because it helps us learn about our labor rights and understand that our work has worth”.
This initiative is possible thanks to your generous contribution. As always, we are grateful for your support and commitment with our causes.
Warm regards,
Andrea Gandolfi & the AGTR team

What we achieved together

Domestic workers at AGTR's venue (pre-pandemic)
Dear Supporters,
It has been a while since we looked back at what we have achieved together. We would like to share with you what you helped us accomplish during the past three years (from 2018 to 2020). Even during the pandemic, with your support, we were able to keep helping adult domestic workers and girls exposed to child domestic labor:
- 4,613 women employed as domestic workers were informed about their labour rights and services available to them. AGTR implements an information, motivation and mobilization program for women who work as paid domestic workers so that they are aware of current regulations and the options we offer them to access formal jobs, with all employment benefits.
- 1,420 domestic workers took part in workshops to improve their negotiation skills, employability and self-esteem. Our training workshops prepare women to negotiate better employment conditions, resolve conflicts in their workplace, and educate them about their rights and duties, according to the law.
- 1,064 adult domestic workers were placed in formal jobs. Thanks to the support of our in-house employment agency, La Casa de Panchita SAC, trained workers have access to formal jobs, with full recognition of their labor rights, fair pay and decent employment conditions.
- 156 radio programs were produced and broadcast. AGTR produces and broadcasts the only radio program in Peru dedicated to paid domestic work and the situation of women who work in this sector, with the aim of raising awareness among the rest of society.
- 30 girls in child domestic labor We support 30 girl child domestic workers through a healthy nutrition and school support program. Every month, the 30 girls from very low-income households receive a highly nutritious food basket, playful-educational workshops and school support so that they can build a better future.
Improving the livelihoods of women employed as domestic workers gives them the means to support their families, preventing the risk of their children to become child laborers. According to a recent survey we carried out, most of our beneficiaries have two or three children and half of them are the only ones providing for their household. Our goal is to stop the spiral of poverty that prevents new generations from low-income social segments from gaining access to the means to build a better future for themselves. With your help we can make it happen! Thank you for your continued interest and support.
Sincerely,
Andrea Gandolfi
