Over the past three months, through workshop access, mentorship, and peer learning, youth gain hands-on problem-solving skills and made a meaningful shift in mindset from passive learners to active technology creators. Their work responds directly to local challenges: post-harvest losses, plastic and paper waste polluting streets, and underutilized agricultural by-products like coconut husks.
Four working prototypes are now advancing toward real-world impact. The Cocopeat Machine team is in active testing, processing coconut husks into fine fiber growing medium with strong demand among smallholder farmers and urban gardeners. Miracula Plastics are in market research and have identified a potential industrial-scale customer a major step from prototype to commercial pipeline. The Fruit Dryer team has achieved at least three sales of their drying service while still in testing, and has since expanded into avocado oil extraction, opening new market opportunities in Tanzania's natural products sector. The Paper Pulp Machine team is in the process of establishing a dedicated recycling station to commercialize recycled paper production and address the paper waste challenge.
What Comes Next & A Note of Gratitude
Twende remains committed to walking alongside these innovators as they move from prototype to market, while continuing to train new cohorts in design thinking and entrepreneurship. None of this is possible without your support. Your generosity gives young Tanzanians not just tools but the belief that they can solve their own community's challenges. Every prototype, every sale, every recycled bottle is proof of what happens when communities are given the resources to lead.
