PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE IN INDIGENOUS CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
IN THE LACANDONA JUNGLE OF THE STATE OF CHIAPAS
At Cobach(*) 109 in Nuevo San Juan Chamula, a talk was held on the topic "prevention of violence against indigenous girls and young women." With the participation of 40 men and 53 women, issue of gender violence was discussed, its definition, the causes and consequences that could be generated and how we can prevent this current problem from ourselves. In circles of sharing, we managed to open up their experiences, their ideals as indigenous youth and how to reduce gender violence in their communities.
We also held a forum for International Women's Day with a focus on the prevention of gender violence against indigenous girls and youth, where the presence of all the women of the Nuevo San Juan Chamula community was obtained with a number of 150 women including adult women, young women and girls. The activity was carried out in the multipurpose room of the community where a program was carried out in which we presented videos about why international women's day is commemorated, an explanation was given on the definition of gender violence and how we can prevent it. Women in general are encouraged to continue with their dreams through the video WOMEN WHO INSPIRE, so that they see the many opportunities that we have through our rights and that it does not matter the age to fulfill them.
Training workshops on gender were carried out with activities that helped the young people of Cobach 109 in Nuevo San Juan Chamula to have significant learning about the prevention of gender violence in order to take it into action starting from home and community. He had an interaction with the group where doubts and participation arose that helped a more dynamic process and above all a lot of learning. We believe that through all these activities we improve the vision on the issue of gender violence and especially indigenous young women to defend their rights as women in order to continue with their goals and eradicate violence against them. In this activity, 15 women and 19 men participated.
That is why we continue in the process of publicizing the importance of PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST INDIGENOUS GIRLS AND YOUNG PEOPLE, offering tools to detect it early and prevent it.
