From September to November 2021 we have continued with training and sports workshops with young Tseltal, Tsotsil and Tojolabal women.
In the Lacandon Jungle of Chiapas.
In Nuevo San Juan Chamula, community of Las Margaritas, Chiapas, we continue with the practice of women's soccer with the participation of young women. Along with the soccer practice, we have provided them with workshops on emotion management, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, and decision making; these workshops have strengthened the capacities of the young women to understand the events that affect their development and thus begin to make changes in their communities and families, in order to be able to carry out their life plans.
During the practices we had the support of volunteers, women soccer players who shared their experience with the younger girls. From these experiences, the girls have strengthened their leadership skills and are beginning to self-manage their practices and positions on the field.
In October, Channel 14 of Mexico City aired the report made in May of this year, in which the testimonies of these young women, who see soccer as a space for freedom, were compiled.
In Los Altos de Chiapas.
In the municipalities of San Juan Cancuc and Chenalhó, three gender workshops were held with young indigenous women from the communities of El Pozo, Chiloljá, Cabecera municipal de San Juan Cancuc and Chenalhó. During these workshops, the young women practice sports that motivate them to continue attending.
Four work sessions were held with the intersectoral roundtables, in which a commitment was made with the indigenous communities to continue sharing Covid-19 prevention tools.
A discussion was held with young people on the topic "Youth and COVID-19", where young people shared the challenges they have been facing on a daily basis since the beginning of the health contingency.
A sensitization workshop was held with teachers to learn how to support young people in the conflicts expressed in the discussion, and thus be able to reduce the difficulties of young people in the face of COVID-19.
