Growing up like fruitful seeds

Spring is here, and with it we can see how everything is changing around us: the weather, the trees and even people's mood. And just like spring makes our surrounds bloom to make them more vivid, our day center has done it with the new generation of children.

Officially on February 27, 2018 the 5th generation of children started to attend the day center, where they will develop social, emotional, communicative and cognitive skills for the next 5 years. In these first months before starting with human development program, we've been working on the process of adaptation, talking about the importance of routines in the daily life and rules as an effective tool to keep everything under control and safe, while maintaining a playful and relaxed environment.

Although we spent 6 months in the stage of confidence with them and their families in their community, it still important we help them to adapt to a new rhythm in order to help them stick and feel comfortable with the program, just like we do when nurturing new seeds on the field, is a little by little growing process. With the current kids and this new generation we now assist 240 in total.

Taking about seeds and spring, the generation 3rd and 4th were actively participating in a garden workshop from mid-February till March, to recover the green spaces inside the day center. The workshop was taught by 5 young volunteers the same age as them, under the belief of learning between equals to make it significant. In this teaching space, they got to know more about the main characteristics in plants like mint, lavender and rosemary and how to take care of them, making an activity to plant them plus some new seeds of chili and cilantro. It will be a spring full of color and perfume.

But not only plants and children bloom, also the entire organization as we work under the philosophy of constant improvement and training for our collaborators. While the children were not in Mayama, usually Fridays, the community and day center teachers were on training learning about topics like "Children’s rights", "Children Development Theories" and "Emotional intelligence".

It has been a very active beginning of the year and we love it! We are proud to count on you to keep achieving our goals to benefit one of the most important stages of the human being: childhood. Let's keep bringing out the best of us to make our surrounds bloom. Let's keep making it awesome!
