A Success Story

The new Kimbilio Primary School opened its doors for the first time in October 2021. This exciting project has enabled street children living in the short and longer-term houses run by the Congo Children's Trust to receive good quality education alongside children from the neighbourhood of the school whose families cannot afford school fees. There are now over a hundred children at the school!
Thank you so much for your generous giving which has enabled us to complete this project so quickly.
We'd love it if you could continue on this journey with us. This GlobalGiving project will soon be closing, but we'd be delighted if you'd consider transferring your monthly giving to our new GlobalGiving project 'Providing life changing education to children in DRC', which is raising funds for the ongoing costs of resourcing the Kimbilio school with best teaching materials and equipment as well as paying the hard-working teachers and support staff

School Opening

The new Kimbilio School building is complete and the school will open on 4 October 2021. The Head Teacher has been apponted and staff are being interviewed. A huge thank you to all of you who have contibuted to the School building project. It is so exciting to see the school ready for the first pupils to arrive. Covid numbers are still very high in Lubumbashi and there is no space in the city mortuaries. There is little supply of vaccines and the Kimbilio team are providing masks for children who come to the Day Centre and who live in the short-term and long-term homes. Sadly, Jean Bosco, the director of Kimbilio in Lubumbashi, died of Covid in July. Jean set an amazing example the way he worked diligently and led Kimbilio for seven years with compsssion, gentleness and humility, improving the lives of so many vulnerable children. Two senior members of the team have stepped forward to carry out Jean's duties and we will review the position in three months.

Great Progress on the new Kimbilio Primary School

Dear friends,
I am pleased to report that building of the new Kimbilio Primary School is on schedule. The school grounds have been prepared and work is going on with the doors, ceilings and interior decorations. We remain on schedule to open for pupils to arrive in September 2021. Exciting times!
There has been a very slow take up of vaccination against Covid-19, due to scare stories about blood clots or sterility. The Government hasn’t introduced a mass vaccination program, even thought the Indian variant has now been found in several recent cases. The Kimbilio team continue to work with children on the streets, particularly trying to reach those in greatest need
Kimbilio continues to care for children living on the streets. One of our team, Joel Kidindwe, encourages the children to express themselves creatively through art and fabrics. It is so encouraging to see the children enjoying themselves and developing their artistic talents
