This past quarter, the Genanaw Foundation began preparing to launch a vital new initiative: printing and distributing textbooks for Genet Miriam School students. Due to the ongoing conflict in Ethiopia, national education funding has been sharply reduced. As a result, many public schools—particularly in rural areas like Gulo—are receiving only a single softcover “exemplar” copy of each textbook, far short of what is needed to support classroom learning.
To address this urgent need, we are initiating a textbook printing project for the upcoming school year. Our goal is to provide enough books so that no more than three students need to share a copy, and each teacher receives one of their own. This will significantly improve learning conditions and reduce the burden on teachers who are currently relying on a single reference copy for entire classes.
While this project is new, it builds on the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to ensuring that students in underserved rural communities have the tools they need to succeed. We’re grateful for your continued support in helping make this possible.
