Empower Uprooted & Displaced Women Through Tech

Have you ever been asked to design the worst project possible—whether at school or at work?

In November, 21 women in our Springboard program in France took on exactly that challenge during a workshop led by Charles from Ada Tech School, a tech academy specialised in training for digital careers.

Why this challenge?
Because intentionally creating the worst possible web interface is a powerful way to understand what truly makes a great user experience.

And the participants’ feedback? Absolutely glowing.

Building real community is central to Sistech’s vision for refugee inclusion in Europe, and it is embedded in almost every aspect of our work. We thus embraced the theme of this year’s World Refugee Day – Community as a Superpower – with open arms… and with a week full of events and special content.

It all began with a breakfast on June 17 in Paris. Participants included managers and HR directors from Sistech’s network of corporate partners, as well as refugee women who participated in our programmes previously, and who are now working exciting tech jobs. They discussed diverse hiring from two different perspectives, sharing insights that were both practical and inspiring.

A few days later, and many kilometers away, members of our community accepted the "We Welcome" award at a ceremony in Rome. The UNHCR gives this award to organisations making economic inclusion of refugees a reality in Italy. We capped off WRD 2025 by organising our first-ever online alumnae event, with speakers from France, Italy, and Greece. They shared how communities bring them closer to achieving their dreams.

Events are important, but so is impact. Besides celebrating the resilience of refugees, and their contributions to society, Sistech’s team members and volunteers were busy running three programmes. In all, and thanks to generous donations from people like you, Sistech has supported 90 refugee women with career orientation and professional training in the past three months!

And with each new participant, our community keeps growing stronger.
