Protecting Childhood: Empowering Children

Supporting children in Peru

At Globalteer, safeguarding vulnerable children is at the heart of everything we do. Across Cusco, Peru, and Siem Reap, Cambodia, children face significant risks—abduction, trafficking, exploitation, and abuse—especially those from impoverished or rural communities. In response, we have developed and implemented the Globalteer Child Protection Programme, focused on prevention through education, empowerment, and local capacity building.

Building Safety Through Education

Through this program, we provide local teachers in both countries with the training, knowledge, and tools they need to teach children how to protect themselves and identify unsafe situations—not just in the classroom, but in their everyday lives.

In Cusco, Peru, we’ve taken this a step further. We are proud to report that we’ve begun teaching children directly about their human rights as children—in language and formats that are accessible, age-appropriate, and engaging. These sessions empower children to:

Understand their right to safety, education, and dignity

Recognize when their rights are being violated

Speak up, seek help, and support one another

Learn strategies to stay safe in public places, at home, and online

For many of the children we work with, this is the first time they’ve been taught that their voices matter and that they have the right to be protected and heard.

Wider Community Impact

By equipping teachers with the tools to integrate child protection into daily lessons and building awareness around self-safety and human rights, the impact goes far beyond the classroom:

Reduces vulnerability to child trafficking and abuse

Improves communication between children and trusted adults

Raises awareness within families and communities about the importance of child protection

Builds a culture of prevention that benefits entire school systems and neighbourhoods

Looking Ahead

We are hoping to expand this programme to reach even more children across both regions, adapting materials to suit cultural contexts and the specific challenges faced by each community. With your continued support, we can deepen our impact, strengthen local protective systems, and ensure that every child grows up knowing they are valued, protected, and empowered.

Thank you for standing with us to protect the most vulnerable. Your support is helping build a safer, more just world for children in Peru and Cambodia.
