ALNF’s Early Language and Literacy program has been a life-changing investment in community.
Throughout 2022 and into 2023, the program continued to develop local capacity, skills and resources to transform Indigenous children’s literacy and educational outcomes and create systemic, community-led change.
Seeing a transformation in her school community, Sarah, a Principal of a participating school in the Mid-North Coast of NSW region believes that ALNF’s Early Language and Literacy (EL&L) Program “has had a significant impact on the confidence of our teachers.”
EL&L is a best practice program for early years education that incorporates speech and language pathology and education best practice principles expressly designed to optimise the language and literacy outcomes of disadvantaged children. EL&L equips educators, parents and community members with the knowledge and tools required to work with their own children to develop foundational language and literacy skills.
Throughout the year, Sarah tells us that “the training, support and resources provided…by ALNF has been invaluable.” She has seen her cohort of at-risk and vulnerable students flourish, with “increased confidence and the children strongly identifying themselves as ‘learners’”.
