Empower with literacy

At ALNF, we continue to see powerful change in addressing children’s pre-literacy needs by building the capacity of local adults across some of Australia’s most marginalised communities.

Thanks to your support, local community members across Australia have been empowered with the knowledge, skills and resources required to improve children’s early language and literacy, and educational outcomes, while concurrently being provided with a pathway to employment.

So far in 2025, over 520 local educators, parents and community members have been trained, mentored and supported through our place-based approach to program delivery, nurturing confident, passionate and committed individuals who feel empowered with their newly acquired skills.

As a mark of her confidence in the program’s ability to transform children’s language and literacy outcomes, one local educator applied what she had learnt in the program with her own children at home:

 “I took the [EL&L] resources home, and my kids loved them. It made a huge difference for my son, especially as he was still going through some speech challenges.”

This reflects how the Early Language & Literacy program impacts the whole of community by strengthening local capacity to break the cycle of illiteracy and disadvantage.

Every local educator trained and empowered means hundreds of children continue to reap the benefits each year, further amplifying impact and creating long-term change.
