Project Report | Feb 17, 2017
"Las companeras estan cosechando"

By Monika Goforth | Guatemala Program Director

"Las companeras" Amaranth Co-op Members
"Las companeras" Amaranth Co-op Members

"The members are harvesting,"says cooperative coordinator, Angelica. The 110 women members are busy harvesting their amaranth this month and the machine is hard-at-work!

Set between the farms of the two biggest amaranth producers, the machine has already cleaned more than 2 acres of amaranth seeds in the last two months. Now, the machine is getting moved to the central office for everyone else!

A hundred other small scale amaranth producers are bringing their harvests to the central co-op office where the machine will clean hundreds of pounds of amaranth over just a few days. Conveniently, the clean amaranth will be ready for packaging and distribution straight from the office to Guatemala City and beyond.
