It's been a beautiful process working with Mujeres Oxlajuj E "The Amaranth Women." They continue to grow as an organization, funding women's empowerment and gender awareness programs through their amaranth sales. It's incredible what can be done with group work, combining resources and sharing a vision.
That's what I've learned while working with Angelica and Dominga and their cooperative members. As we met to test out the machine, ideas were flying left and right as cooperative members commented on the texture of the belt. When we brought back the improved version, we all marveled at how well it turned out!
After last season's use, the Amaranth Women found some more areas for improvement. Some seeds were falling off the conveyor belt on the left, wasting our precious superfood. That simple fix was coordinated with a local welder. Now, the work is done!
Thanks to you, our generous donors, 110 Amaranth Women Farmers are producing more amaranth for less labor, enabling them to continue their social program focus at an even higher capacity.
