HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR JULY 2024 NEWSLETTER
The IkamvaYouth Western Cape branch staff came out in numbers to visit Kayamandi High School in the Western Cape. The purpose was to assist learners at Kayamandi High School with applications to tertiary education institutions in South Africa. This outreach formed part of our 2024 Mandela Day initiative and was the second outreach programme in a series of four that the Western Cape team plans to do this year. We would like to thank our Western Cape team for their dedication and commitment to this initiative.
Our Nyanga branch is buzzing with excitement thanks to our incredible mentoring programme with 2U! This year's cohort is already making waves with sessions on exam prep, job shadowing, interview skills, and building powerful personal brands. Watching our learners grow in confidence and capability is truly inspiring. This partnership is more than just a mentoring programme; it's a launchpad for futures filled with limitless possibilities. We can't wait to see where this journey takes us! Thank you to everyone at 2U for your support.
IkamvaYouth KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng Community Clean-Up Initiative
Our incredible teams in Diepsloot and KwaZulu-Natal rolled up their sleeves and hit the ground running for Mandela Day! We traded textbooks for trash bags and transformed our communities into cleaner places. From the bustling streets of Diepsloot to the town of Tongaat, devastated by the recent tornado, our volunteers united together to spread some serious sunshine and restore hope through the power of paying-it-forward. Together with our partners at Shincheonji, we showed the people of Tongaat that they’re not alone in rebuilding their lives. Let's give a massive shoutout to our amazing staff and learners for making a real difference!
Our Western Cape District Manager, Lungile and Masiphumelele Branch Intern Neli joined the Expresso team to chat about the work that we do as an organisation and how the IkamvaYouth after-school tutoring programme is improving educational outcomes for learners in South Africa.
