Progress Report on GBV Project: Empowering Women in Kibera

Introduction
The "Empowering Women in Kibera" project aims to address and reduce instances of gender-based violence (GBV) in the Kibera community. By providing support services, education, and advocacy, we strive to empower women and foster a safer environment. This report details the progress made over the past six months.
Project Progress
1. Awareness Campaigns
- Activities: Conducted five awareness campaigns in various sections of Kibera. These campaigns included street performances, informational booths, and distribution of educational materials.
- Dates: January 15, February 20, March 10, April 5, and May 25.
- Participation: Over 2,500 community members attended these campaigns, with a significant turnout from women and youth.
2. Support Services
- Counseling Sessions: Provided 120 individual counseling sessions and 10 group therapy sessions for survivors of GBV.
- Legal Aid: Assisted 30 women in accessing legal aid and filing reports with local authorities.
- Shelter: Partnered with local shelters to provide safe housing for 15 women and their children fleeing abusive situations.
3. Education and Training
- Workshops: Conducted 8 workshops on GBV awareness, self-defense, and women's rights.
- Training: Trained 25 community leaders and 50 volunteers on how to recognize, respond to, and prevent GBV.
- School Programs: Implemented GBV awareness programs in 5 local schools, reaching over 1,000 students.
4. Advocacy and Policy Influence
- Meetings with Policymakers: Held 3 meetings with local government officials to advocate for stronger enforcement of GBV laws and better support services for survivors.
- Policy Proposals: Submitted a policy proposal for establishing a dedicated GBV response unit within the local police force.
