Enpower 200; youths entrepreneursurs

By Dancan Okaka | Director

Project Overview

The Empower 200 Youth Entrepreneurs project was implemented by Saidika Organization with the goal of equipping 200 young people in Kisumu and Busia counties with entrepreneurship skills, mentorship, and startup support. The aim was to tackle youth unemployment by nurturing locally led businesses and enhancing self-reliance among the youth.

2. Achievements at a Glance
  • 216 Youth Reached (116 in Kisumu, 100 in Busia)

  • 12 Training Workshops Conducted (6 per county)

  • 480+ Mentorship Hours Provided

  • 50 Youth Ventures Awarded Seed Capital (KES 5,000 each)

  • 83 Startups Launched or Strengthened

  • 2 Market Linkage Forums Held (1 in Kisumu, 1 in Busia)

3. Stories of Change
  • Mary Atieno from Kisumu started a mobile tailoring business after the training. She now employs 3 youth and is expanding her services to schools.

  • Brian Odhiambo from Busia launched a successful rabbit farming project, supplying meat to local hotels and schools.

These stories reflect how access to training and startup support can ignite potential and build lasting impact.

4. Challenges Encountered
  • Poor internet access in some rural areas made remote mentorship difficult.

  • The demand for seed capital was high, exceeding the initial budget.

5. Lessons Learned
  • Youth respond well when training is localized and practical.

  • Peer-to-peer mentorship builds accountability and resilience.

  • Collaboration with county government offices increases program reach and sustainability.

6. Way Forward
  • Ongoing mentorship sessions with local business leaders.

  • Scale the program to reach an additional 100 youth using local partnerships.

  • Develop an online resource hub to support youth in business planning and market access.

7. Appreciation

Saidika Organization extends heartfelt thanks to all stakeholders, partners, trainers, donors, and the youth who participated. Your contributions continue to transform lives and build a future of hope through entrepreneurship.
