Growing Together: Donor Update

By Yuxin Xie | Project Leader

Over the past quarter, Evergreen Center for Sustainable Development has continued to advance our GlobalGiving project, Empowering 10,000 Migrant Children in China. Staying firmly aligned with our core mission of empowering migrant and left-behind children and building a community-based growth support system, we take our "Growing Up in the City" Children’s Homes as our physical frontline, and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) as our core approach. We have partnered with professional social work agencies and volunteer groups across China to advance the launch, operation and standardized services of our Children’s Homes across Hebei, Guizhou, Sichuan and Tianjin. Throughout the quarter, we delivered over 70 themed growth activities and served more than 1,500 children, effectively addressing the critical gaps of insufficient after-school companionship for rural left-behind children and holiday childcare challenges for urban dual-income families, and building a safe, joyful, and growth-focused "second home" for children right in their neighborhoods.

This quarter, at our "Growing Up in the City" Children’s Home in Dawang Village, Anxin County, Xiongan New Area, Hebei Province, we partnered with volunteer preschool teachers from nearby kindergartens to hold weekly "Weekend Magic" Picture Book + Game themed activities. Featuring immersive reading of world-renowned classic picture books and supporting interactive experiences, these activities filled the gap of high-quality weekend companionship for rural children in the county, and helped them learn to share, collaborate and be brave through stories and interactions. At our Children’s Home in Xingfu Community, a poverty alleviation resettlement community in Jiuyi Subdistrict, Dafang County, Bijie City, Guizhou Province, we carried out regular diverse activities including calligraphy enlightenment, New Year handicraft creation, child privacy protection education, and winter nature scavenger hunts, enabling children in the resettlement community to experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture through calligraphy, master self-protection skills through practice, and gain a strong sense of belonging and growth confidence within the community. Our Letong Commune Children’s Home in Xihu Road Subdistrict, Nanming District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, has held more than 40 warm companion activities serving over 1,200 participants to date. Through a diverse lineup of content including a regular choir, Chinese painting and allegro interest classes, safety education, and science enlightenment, it has effectively solved the after-school childcare challenge for children from urban dual-income families, and become a trusted "second home" for children. Our Children’s Home at 66 Zhushi Street, Chongzhou City, Sichuan Province, launched a "homework + fun" dual-track winter vacation public welfare childcare service. The 4-day program reached 94 children with 177 service visits, helping them complete their winter vacation homework efficiently, overcome procrastination and excessive screen time, and develop communication and teamwork skills through interactive activities. Meanwhile, our Tianjin Children’s Home held a 7-day winter camp with four featured themes, covering junior lecturer empowerment, disaster reduction and safety training, AI innovation, and intangible cultural heritage experience. The camp served more than 140 participants, comprehensively enhanced teenagers’ comprehensive literacy and resilience, and helped them spend a fulfilling and growth-focused winter vacation.

All the growth and progress this quarter is supported by our stable collaborative operating model of "government support + professional social work + volunteer empowerment". We always adhere to the child-centered service concept, listen to children’s real needs through daily interactions and our "Children's Voices Paint the Future" themed activity, and continuously optimize our service content. Meanwhile, we have built a growth platform for volunteers through professional training, and engaged dozens of professional volunteers in the full service process throughout the quarter, providing solid support for the long-term sustainable operation of the project. None of this would have been possible without the trust, support and partnership of every donor. Every donation you make is not just financial support—it lights a lamp for children in rural and urban communities. It not only fills the gap in companionship for them, but also plants seeds of kindness, bravery and confidence in their hearts, develops their social-emotional skills and resilience, and lays a warm foundation for their life journey. Going forward, we will continue to stay true to our original aspiration, deepen our community-based child services, live up to the trust and commitment of every donor, and walk alongside you to protect every childlike heart and illuminate every path of growth.
