Challenge

Many Nigerian households prefer to use girl-children as maids. A large number of these girls engage in hawking and carriage of goods. On average, more school-age girls engage in street trading. However, the shocking effects of girl-child labor has become enormous as 20% of maids have been subjected to one form of sexual assault including cases of rape, violence which in most cases were unreported. They are also exposed to adult challenges and deviant behavior at an early age of their lives.

Solution

The project will provide sustainable solution to the issue of girl-child labor and trafficking in the Niger-delta region of Nigeria, by identifying 250 affected girl-victims across the region, counseling and enrolling them in a 3-month skill-acquisition training program, after which certificates and the requisite utensils will be made available to these girls for onward entrepreneurship that will sustain their livelihood.

Long-Term Impact

HRJPF will integrate sustainability aspects from the beginning of her project, this will assist to develop the needed synergy with relevant stakeholders and develop strong support to continue to evaluate the impact of the project. HRJPF will also develop communication strategy as to be able to share project results with a large audience. The expected outcome will include a self-determined successor-generation of girl-children exhibiting the zeal for a positive and responsible future.
