Challenge

The civil war broke out in South Sudan after two years of independence. This war destroyed the poor infrastructure and destabilized the economy. The outbreak of violence put human rights into dire situation and resulted in awful atrocities. As of today the perpetrators were not taken to answer in the court of law. This made the need to revenge to rise higher. It is the will of the Hope Society to deescalate the violence and revenge killings, by using arts and culture to bring about lasting peace

Solution

This project will connect South Sudanese women and youth who are living in three (3) regions, they will come to work together. The sessions will build on their strengths as change makers and also give them skills on problems solving, conflict mitigation, conflict settlement, conflict resolution, advocacy online and offline and peacebuilding through music and drama. All these will be shared with communities in order to make an impact and positive change and help them embrace peace and tolerance.

Long-Term Impact

It is worth noting that project is going to train 150 women from three (3) different regions and 150 youth who have skills in acting, painting and craft making. And by connecting them with women the expected outcome is that they will have new plays, new paintings and new techniques of craft making and peacebuilding. These beneficiaries will form groups that will work for peace and wellbeing of population and make change. This is likely to contribute to sustaining peace amongst the communities.
