Summary

Building a More Equal Future: Training, Safety and Technology for Women Construction Workers in Bolivia. In Bolivia, the construction sector offers better-paid job opportunities than others, where vulnerable women are confined, such as in the precarious informal sector. Construction has historically been monopolized by men. Despite progress, women continue to face significant discrimination and pay inequality. Our campaign aims to change that.

Challenge

The majority of women construction workers in Bolivia are heads of households and with low levels of education or incomplete studies. They represent 4.5% of the economically active population in the sector and face numerous inequality barriers, such as a wage gap of 38% less than men, and difficulties in accessing equal employment opportunities. Additionally, the lack of access and knowledge about technology and mobile devices limits their participation in the labor market.

Solution

Red Habitat offers comprehensive training in technical skills and labor rights. Through our proven methodology, we promote the empowerment of women construction workers so that they can defend their rights and access better job opportunities. We developed our own mobile application, designed to link labor supply with demand and provide information and awareness, so that women assume the importance of opting for insurance against work accidents and generate effective mechanisms to access to it.

Long-Term Impact

We hope to increase the number of trained and empowered women in the construction sector, reducing the pay gap and promoting gender equality. Our goal is for the construction sector to become a better-paid employment opportunity for many more women in situations of social and economic vulnerability, eliminating harassment and gender discrimination, guaranteeing equal treatment and remuneration between men and women. Gradually breaking gender stereotypes and facilitating economic emancipation.
