This project is looking for developing a safe space for young girls of Socio Vivienda II community allowing them to develop the necessary skills for their empowerment. Regarding the challenges in terms of all types of violence and poverty that they face, through this club they will have the necessary tools to defend themselves and promote equal rights to become community leaders, getting rid of the cultural stigmas that surround them.
It is estimated that 4 of each 6 mothers that are part of JUCONIs intervention program, have been victims of violence, most of them being sexually abused in their childhood and/or during their youth. In this environment, women and girls situationship is worrying, as they live surrounded by great risk of being abused. As well, because of lack of education, positive bonds and role models, they they have a distorted self-perception and poor self-esteem, reducing opportunities dramatically.
Considering JUCONIs methodology of psychotherapeutic intervention and violence prevention, it has developed a safe club for 80 girls in Socio Vivienda II. This Girls club will empower young women to strengthen their self-perception, leadership and critical thinking skills changing the stereotypes of the traditional women role, that make them able to identify problems, and manage solutions becoming representatives in spaces of political management promoting their rights.
By forming empowered and resilient girls and young women, we are giving to the community leaders that have deconstructed their violent past, resulting in a great decrease of violence index. Young girls will be mentors of other girls from their school, creating a circle of support and confidence. Through this project we are attacking the problematic by its root, working in the correct mental health and personal development of the future society: the children.
