At age three, Xiaoyu suffered brain damage from a high fever, which affected her cognitive development and hearing, leaving her with profound multiple disabilities. Raised solely by her father, she worked hard to graduate from high school and initially hoped to join the workforce. However, she was unable to adapt to workplace life, and her skills were not yet fully developed, resulting in dismissal within three months.
Through referral by the Labor Department, Xiaoyu joined Eden’s Loving Hands Activity Center, where she receives vocational training and independent living support. Our goal is to help her develop practical work skills and foster self-reliance, guiding her toward achieving personal aspirations.
At the center, social workers observed that Xiaoyu enjoys lively environments and making friends. However, her hearing impairment sometimes causes communication difficulties, and she occasionally feels sad, missing her grandfather who cared for her in the past.
To help Xiaoyu engage with life, our team incorporated her personal aspirations into her care plan, supporting her dream of visiting Kaohsiung to see the ocean and enjoy fresh seafood. She actively participated in planning the trip and saved her monthly cleaning task rewards to make her dream possible. When she finally arrived in Kaohsiung and felt the sun and sea breeze, her face lit up with joy and a sense of freedom.
