Challenge

Recent survey has shown that 20% of Communities have dyslexic children especially the vulnerable children such as the poor, disabled, orphans, abused and the girl child with learning disorder who attended schools but never finished due to lack of care. Instead of allowing them to be tortured by teachers, guardians and parents EFDIF will provide 40 dyslexia screening kits to assess them and provide support for their inabilities and an opportunity to become part of solution for their community.

Solution

EFDIF provides dyslexic screening kits to intervene/empower the most vulnerable dyslexic children between the ages of 3-15, in 3 years (from 2019 - 2022) through visitation to schools and communities in rural areas. Parents, guardians and teachers will be trained as special needs care givers. Children will be assessed, diagnosed and taught how to read and identify their letters.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide 40 Dyslexia screening Kits for 20 Communities in Abuja; each community will have 2 kits each. Volunteers will raise awareness of dyslexia to parents, guardians and teachers in communities by training them on how to care for the dyslexic children. Board members/volunteers will be assigned to each community to identify and screen children with dyslexia. At the end of 3rd year 1000 parents/teachers will be aware of dyslexia and 1000 children will be diagnosed.
