Summary

When violence broke out in the Middle East, refugees began to flee their country, looking for a safe place. By January 2020, over 750,000 refugees found shelter in Jordan, with only the clothes on their back and what little money or possessions they were able to carry. Since then, the GHNI team built relationships with over 1000 families who expressed great interest in TCD. GHNI aims to help these families reform their community and become sustainable.

Challenge

According to UNHCR, Jordan continues to host over 750,000 refugees of nearly 60 different nationalities, the second highest in the world in comparison to its population. The refugees are predominantly from Syria, but also from countries such as Iraq, Yemen, Sudan and Somalia. The majority of refugees, over 83%, live in urban areas across the country.

Solution

GHNI's Jordan team are working alongside refugee families, living outside of refugee camps, to help them become sustainable through skills training, nutritional provision, and education for children. These supportive elements will lead families to become self sustaining, whether they stay in Jordan, return home, or resettle to another country. GHNI will continue to provide relief and offer hope through relationships with these families who have lost everything.

Long-Term Impact

Through GHNI's work in Jordan, the team has relationships with over 1,000 families who are involved process in Transformational Community Development (TCD). Having left jobs, houses, and family back in their home country, GHNI is helping these families get back on their feet, reform their community, become sustainable, and experience hope. As a result, families become invested in the greater community.
