The projects seek to provide education to school going girl children from the most backward nomadic pastoralist communities in the Karamoja region, thereby providing opportunities to break out of poverty and illiteracy. With your passionate heart, this project will help 250 girl children to get a chance to live and a bright future.
Most families living around Kotido district, earn a livelihood through daily wage labor. Girls are forced to marry young in exchange for a decent 'bride price. Teenagers are often sold into marriage in exchange for cattle. the less educated girls are, the higher the bride price. The best preparation for marriage is to stay at home and help, not get an education at school.35% of girls drop out of school because of early marriage, and 23% drop out due to pregnancy.
The project will help the girl children - attend school and be engaged in studies and encouraged to attain the highest grade possible - think about their future and link studies to their career plans - enjoy a secure and supportive family environment - participate in school/community events - provide mutual support and encouragement to each other so that the children feel supported and motivated to pursue their studies and feel valued members of the school community.
The project will provide education to 250 school going girls and help them attain high school education at the least. Girls who complete school to secondary level are supported with higher education, training, apprenticeships, and employment. About 200 families (1000 people) will be direct and indirect beneficiaries of this initiative.
