Empowering the Girl Child through Education

Dear Donors and GlobaliGiving,

Empowering the Girl through Education Project is a Life Changing activity which is improving the lives of girls in Rural Sierra Leone more especially in the North Region. This project has become more popular due to its role in the lives of these girl children, giving rights and power to girls has been the bedrock of this project, which has helped a lot of girls regain their lost dignities. Throughout this period of COVID-19, we have been focusing on rescuing these girls who have been engaged in forceful and early child marriages, teenage pregnancy and food distributions.

The level of suffering that has affected these girls during this period of COVID-19 is really much; with our intervention we worked very hard to cushion the situation by providing food items to these girls in order to help them stay safe and also from early and forceful marriages, teenage pregnancy etc. We provided food to 100 young girls in three villages (Mathinka, Mabere, Magbonah) to help cushion the hardship imposed by COVID-19.  Since schools are now closed, the level of teenage pregnancy is on the increase though we are making a lot of efforts in order to stop this increase by creating a lot of awareness raising campaign programmes targeting young girls and boys within these communities and beyond. From our engagement, we came to realise that bike riders are more in the habit of impregnating young girls, our focus now as an organisation is to hold focus group discussion with these bike riders in an effort to cushion this situation.  

The issue of rape and sexual abuse has rise sharply within the country as a whole, with a lot of children raped and died during the cause. A recent situation that sparked the attention of the government is a 9 years old girl, who was raped and died during the cause. Though investigations are ongoing to know details about the said situation.  In a police report within six (6) months they have 8,500 of rape cases, but they realised that the number is twice the one that were never reported. We are working very hard along with law makes to popularise the child right act, so people will be well aware about it and also emphases on the dangers of rape and sexual assult.

Your roles have been fascinated since you opted to join GlobalGiving Foundation in helping meaningful projects like ours.  Some of these viable causes like ours do not attract major funding, but they are more real than even the ones that do. GlobalGiving has made it possible to create a platform like this that will listen to the cries of these less fortunate. Your contributions means the whole world to us, which has lift the poor out of poverty, give voice to the voiceless, agitate for the oppress,  and creating and building bridges together for a better world. Your donations have made dropping out of school is no longer a reality within our areas of operations, continued campaign on ending early child marriages, FGM, Teenage pregnancy, Gender based violence, trained community volunteer to report on early child marriages, monitoring litigation on rape cases for minors in high courts.  

Our quest for success was far fetched until you came around to support these causes by contributing your hard earn money and suggestions. From the depth of our hearts, we sincerely appreciate all your major contributions both recurring and one off. Even those who didn’t contribute financially but help create awareness about these causes; you are well appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.

You are truly a special partner to us, for putting smiles into the faces of these beneficiaries. Also, you have decided to support our mission and vision which is well appreciated, because of this we shall forever remain grateful to you and rest of your families for your unending love you continue to manifest. You are really one in a million, despite all the important things you have to address like family issues, cars, fuel, food, housing, etc you still squeeze and make a meaningful donation. In spite of this tight economy we live, you still create a way to be a blessing to these less fortunate.  Your support has been really great especially creating more awareness by letting others know about our causes.

I was actually pondering if you were not here with us to achieve this huge success and brining a lot of smiles into the faces of these beneficiaries. How exactly it should have been without you. God will reward you abundantly for such sacrifices in helping these children regain their lost glory.  Because of this and all that you intend doing God in heaven will bless you and all that concerns you.

Our huge concern at the moment is that Sierra Leone is seriously battling with what has been described as a silent epidemic of sexual and gender based violence. According to a recent police statistics its clearly shows that 8500 girls has been sexually abused. The report further said that the figures are twice the ones reported, because plenty of these cases are kept under the carpet. The government has declared it as a national emergency which requires urgent actions be taken. As an organisation working tirelessly against sexual violence and gender based issues, we deemed it fit to go into action but we cannot achieve this alone without your support. Our quest to partner with you stems from the very fact that you have passion to put an end to such practices.

We will continue to update you about our achievement and how your monies are spent. On behalf of ‘The Needy Today’, we want to say a big thank you for your supports, donations and unending love you continue to manifest. We cannot sit down silently by failing to wish you happy New Year and God’s richest blessings.

Furthermore, our campaigns are online and they need more support to meet the needs of poverty stricken children left behind, to access their basic rights and achieve great success.
