Summary

Many young South Londoners are from disadvantaged and low income households, facing a lack of opportunities or a place to go to realise their full personal, professional and creative potential. Refurbishing World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens' Podcast Studio, plus providing ongoing training and tuition, will provide opportunities for local young people to gain experience first-hand and the chance to progress in the music industry, opening up career paths for all.

Challenge

Wandsworth has some of the most deprived, ethnically diverse and socially polarised neighbourhoods in the country. Cuts to arts funding in schools and further education means a lack of opportunity for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to discover the transformative power of music. With World Heart Beat's expansion across two sites and the need to serve its community, funding is more critical than ever to ensure young people can benefit from music and the opportunities it brings.

Solution

Refurbishing and fully equipping World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens' Podcast Studio will include fitting the latest technology (livestreaming equipment, camcorders, speakers, licenses, a fitted desk, sound proofing) and so much more. Additional training and tuition will provide opportunities for local young people to gain experience first-hand and an opportunity to progress in the music industry, opening up career paths.

Long-Term Impact

Music enriches lives, communities and our economy too. This project will nurture the careers of emerging artists and extend World Heart Beat's music industry training programme. This project will help secure World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens as an established music venue, provide music industry career opportunities, enable young people to experience the positivity that music brings, as well as allowing them to rise out of poverty and find an inspiring career choice.
