This World No Tobacco Day, Youth for a Smoke-Free Future will transform city streets into hubs of health and fun. Youth will join live music, sports challenges, games, and free lung health checks while learning the truth about tobacco. By connecting education with excitement, we inspire young people to reject smoking and embrace a smoke-free future.
Globally, tobacco kills 8 million people each year (WHO), with most smokers starting before age 18 (UNICEF). In Nigeria, youth face rising tobacco use and abuse due to peer pressure, marketing, and street culture. Without urgent intervention, addiction takes root early, risking lifelong illness and preventable death, while the health consequences remain invisible
We bring prevention straight to where youth gather: busy streets and urban spaces. Music, sports, games, and interactive talks challenge tobacco myths, making learning fun. Free lung screenings make risks visible, and trained volunteers provide guidance and quitting support. By meeting youth in their world, we spark awareness and empower smoke-free choices.
Street-based interventions reduce smoking initiation and help young people quit early. Over time, this leads to fewer tobacco-related illnesses, lower healthcare costs, and healthier communities. Youth-led campaigns shift social norms so smoking loses its appeal, building a culture of health, resilience, and a truly smoke-free generation.
