ODC has been offering free English lessons to underprivileged children in Cambodia since 2015. Covid-19 has not halted our students' education as our teachers quickly moved to delivering packages and online learning, when many NGOs have closed. Our reputation for delivering excellent education has resulted in many more children enrolled in 2021. Two new classrooms and more teachers will be needed in 2022 to accommodate nearly 200 children enrolled in our full and part time programs.
The right to education is a basic human right. Despite some progress, children in Cambodia are still failing to reach standards appropriate for their age. In rural and poor areas, the problems are amplified. Many schools experience poor quality teaching and learning, and attendance is irregular. We believe that good education transforms lives. Being proficient in English improves access to employment, and eventually lifts families out of poverty.
ODC is building 2 new classrooms to accommodate more children and increase our intake for the full time program in 2022. We will train and employ more local teachers. Our teacher-training scholarship program has enabled young adults to work as teacher-assistants at ODC. They are learning crucial life and leadership skills and are keen to help transform lives and shape future generations of Cambodia. In the near future, ODC will develop partnership schools, hence increasing our outreach.
This project will empower many children with the ability to speak, write, listen and read in English and equip them with critical life skills to access better job opportunities. ODC also provides future pathways through our Teaching Training Scholarship. Our ethos is based on values, ethics and culture and we recognise the need for holistic enrichment to help youth shape their lives. We are making a difference. Please join us!
