Dear Patron,
I am pleased to present to you the progress report of the Abatwa Empowerment Project, an initiative by RWAYDAVO to uplift the indigenous Abatwa community through education, health, housing, and socio-economic development.
1. Executive Summary
The project seeks to provide education to about 1,000 Abatwa individuals, improve literacy, support talent development, and initiate micro-projects for income generation. Additionally, it addresses urgent challenges such as inadequate housing and chronic poverty.
To date, $789 has been raised out of a funding goal of $30,000. This represents only 2.6% of the required budget, limiting our ability to launch full-scale interventions.
2. Current Status
Funds Raised: $789 of $30,000.
Project Team: A dedicated RWAYDAVO team is in charge of coordination and outreach.
Community Engagement: Consultations confirm pressing needs in education, housing, and livelihoods.
3. Challenges
Limited Financial Resources: Insufficient funding remains the main barrier to project launch.
Severe Housing Shortages: Many Abatwa families lack adequate housing, creating unsafe and unstable living conditions.
Chronic Poverty: Over 80% live below the poverty line, facing malnutrition, disease, and unemployment.
Educational Barriers: Only 34% have ever attended school; none have completed higher education.
Limited Awareness and Outreach: Low visibility has reduced donor and partner engagement4. Proposed Solutions
Enhanced Fundraising: Increase visibility through social media, local events, and community partnerships.
Strategic Collaborations: Partner with NGOs, government agencies, and institutions in housing, education, and health.
Housing Support: Explore small-scale shelter solutions in partnership with housing organizations.
Targeted Grant Applications: Apply for competitive grants focused on education and poverty alleviation with technical support from experienced partners.
5. Long-Term Impact
With proper funding, the project will:
Improve access to education and literacy for youth and parents.
Provide better housing, improving health and dignity.
Create income-generating opportunities to reduce dependency.
Strengthen self-esteem, resilience, and social integration.
6. Next Steps
Intensify donor outreach and awareness campaigns.
Submit targeted grant proposals.
Pilot housing and micro-projects where possible.
Provide stakeholders with regular progress updates.
7. Conclusion
Despite the funding challenges, the Abatwa Empowerment Project holds transformative potential. With your continued support, we can provide education, housing, and sustainable livelihoods to one of Rwanda’s most vulnerable communities.
We sincerely thank you for your attention and partnership.
Sincerely,
Jean Damascene Uwizeyimana
