This project will provide 20 sewing machines to make reusable menstrual pads for the women and girls in Rwamwanja Refugee camp. With the world focused on COVID19, the young girls in Rwamwanja Refugee Camp are still facing a humanitarian crisis due to their menstrual periods - something natural and unavoidable. With your help, these girls will be trained in tailoring to make reusable pads for themselves and to distribute in their communities! Menstruation does not stop during a pandemic!
Rwamwanja Refuge Camp is a home of over 80,000 refugees according to UNHCR reports. With the entire world focused on humanitarian aid aimed at handling COVID19 pandemic, gender based violence in camps has increased.Unable to access proper menstrual products, many girls and women rely on crude improvised materials like newspapers, old old rags which can be dirty and banana leaves all which are unhygienic, ineffective and uncomfortable to use to use as they seek to provide solution to this.
we will provide readily accessible affordable menstrual pads to between 2000 girls and women in the Refugee camp. We will train 20 girls in sewing pads we will provide sewing machines as start up package, we will train all of the beneficially in-menstrual Hygiene Income generating opportunities will be available to the girls and women working with the 20 girls in production. 20 girls will be employed after finishing the training
Sustainability will be through having refugee girls trained in sewing the pads as well economic empowerment of the sales agents. The starting tools(20 sewing machines will be provided to the 20 girls upon Graduation. This will provide sustainable employment opportunities for the 20 girls in their respective refugee camp.
