Britain Tanzania Society has been promoting good relations and understanding between those two countries since 1975. Their development arm is Tanzania Development Trust and Benedicto Hosea is their local representative for Kigoma rural. The organisations were so impressed by Benedicto’s work developing his community at his village of Zeze, near Kasulu they invited him to visit the UK to talk about it at their Annual General Meeting in October.
Benedicto was hosted by BTS for 3 weeks and while here had a very busy schedule. He spoke about the youth organisation he founded, Mboni ya Vijana, and how they have improved access to water by manual hand drilling 32 bore holes, set up a microfinance schemes and sustainable farming schemes and created a fish farm and welding workshop. As he told a seminar at the All Party Parliamentary Group in Westminster in his talk on Youth Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, such projects have created over 500 direct jobs, and many more indirectly.
Benedicto also discussed his work with the High Commissioner, H E Dr Asha-Rose Migiro, at her offices, spoke at Imperial College, at a meeting organised by their students’ group Raincatcher who visited Zeze in July, and to their Geology for Global Development group, who are interested in advising on water drilling. Benedicto also spoke about water issues in Kigoma and how his group is addressing them, at a conference at the Geological Society.
During his visit Benedicto also visited the Natural Resources Institute to discuss their research on improved seeds, pest resistance and minimising post-harvest losses, as well as Practical Action who advise on appropriate technology.
Benedicto really impressed everyone he met with his dedication and hard work and many people will be watching his future progress with interest.
Thank you again for your support for the people of Zeze in 2018, and best wishes for the festive season and a very happy 2019.
