Exercising the Right to Adequate Housing in Monte Alegre

Over the past three months in Monte Alegre, located in the Guerrero Mountains, 23 families have come together to exercise their right to adequate housing. In this process, family diagnostics were conducted to understand the specific needs of each household. A total of 29 participants, mostly women (86%), engaged in mapping risk zones, infrastructure, and fire-prone areas in the community. Once a safe area for housing construction was identified, families began a participatory design exercise. Here, the individual purposes of each family took shape, considering the reinforced adobe model and the unique characteristics of local materials.

We still need your generous support to be able to complete the 23 homes

Continue to be part of our great collaborative work!

Dry toilets: A healthy, sustainable, and self-managed alternative

Simultaneously, in Tejocote and La Ciénega, the implementation of dry toilets took place as a healthy, sustainable, and self-managed alternative for two indigenous educational spaces.

1. In Tejocote, a workshop on the use and maintenance of dry toilets was conducted at the community Telebachillerato. The site layout and selection were carried out, and currently, parents are actively involved in adobe production.

2. At the Intercultural University of the State of Guerrero, the final details of the dry toilets were completed. A workshop for over 100 students from the 4 majors was conducted, addressing usage and maintenance. The official delivery and inauguration took place with the sensitization of the maintenance area and the implementation of an operational plan to ensure continuous use and maintenance.

These joint efforts reflect the commitment and active participation of communities in improving living conditions, constructing sustainable spaces, and promoting community self-management practices.
