Some children in Malawi have never seen a wild animal despite living in a country where tourists come from afar and see the animals. You can change that.
"They've heard the roar now let them see the lion." In Malawi, many children grow up hearing stories about elephants, lions, hippos, and zebras-but they've never seen one in real life. Not in a zoo. Not in a sanctuary. Not even from a distance. While tourists fly thousands of kilometres to visit our national parks, children living just hours away from Liwonde National Park grow up only imagining the animals that make Malawi famous. This year, you can change that.
This year, we want to change that story-for at least a few children. We are planning a special trip to Liwonde National Park for 40 primary school children and two of their teachers from a rural community in Malawi. For these children, this won't be just a school trip-it will be the first time in their lives to see the animals they've only heard about. They will see real elephants, hippos, crocodiles, antelope, and maybe even a lion, all in their natural habitat. They will travel in a safe group
This single trip to Liwonde National Park can leave a lasting imprint far beyond one day. For many of these children, seeing wildlife firsthand will awaken a sense of wonder, pride, and connection to Malawi's natural heritage-something no textbook can fully capture. By turning learning into lived experience, the trip can inspire lifelong interest in conservation, tourism, and environmental stewardship. These children may grow up to become park rangers, teachers, eco-guides, or community leaders
