TPF is pleased to announce our most recent grants towards gender equality in Turkey! As we mentioned in our previous posts, it is proven that if a girl receives an education or learns a trade, she will be much less likely to be married before her 18th birthday.
Therefore, we have focused our efforts on supporting organizations whose missions accomplish just that. The first of our two grants was given to Cagdas Yasami Destekleme Dernegi in the amount of $12,445.00. The funds were raised from our Mother’s Day campaign and TPF’s Birthday Campaign to support girls education. The amount given has been allocated to provide high school scholarships to at least 20 girls and university scholarships to 2 girls! We love seeing our donors kind gifts go to work!
Our next groundbreaking grant was given to an organization in the eastern region of Turkey called Van. There, you can find a small but powerful organization that trains young women to weave kilims (hand woven rugs). These girls tend to be the sole breadwinners in their family. The organization also provides home schooling to the participants during the day. Some of the girls come to the classes without any prior education and learn to read and write, and begin earning money for their family. Last month, TPF was able to grant their organization enough funds to build a new workshop, providing access to a whole new group of girls.
We can’t thank you enough for all your help along the way!
Please keep up to date with all of our workings on www.tpfund.org and at @tphilanthropy on Twitter!
