50 new children admitted to the programme!

By Julia Krepska | Founder and Director

We are so excited that the new 50 children have joined us! They are receiving our classes now and will be joining regular school from mid April. We are also supporting their parents with provision of rice - in the next few months the families will be starting their training and income generation activities as well. This means that we have now 143 children and their families officially taking part in the programme (and about 30 children who just attend our classes).

During our monthly meetings the parents have been asking us for more maths and English classes - this is such a huge achievement from families who never sent their children to school before. The children love the classes and we are now trying to locate a good outside space for them to play more sports.

Our library classes are going very well - we are now involving more and more children from the local communities and our staff are working hard on ensuring everyone gets good quality and fun time over there. We had more than 100 children turning up on some occasions and that's far too many for our small building - but we are happy so many want to attend different activities.

First phase of our professional tailoring training is coming to an end and from this month, we are setting up the families with their own workshop near the market. They will start with making school unforms for local schools, and the rest of the families will be receiving further training on making other garments. The bamboo furniture and jewellery training is still continuing but will be finishing soon. That means that the families will start earning their extra income - all these products are made from locally available resources and in high demand. We will keep you up to date.

We have a few more new things that we are working on as a part of the project so we will report on all the developments shortly.

A massive thank you to all who have been supporting us - this means so much. We are hoping to be able to replicate the project further and help more and more children. Thank you!!!
