End Malaria & Malnutrition:Save a Child in Nigeria

Summary

Nigeria accounts for 31% of global malaria deaths and nearly 2 million children suffer from severe malnutrition annually. Malaria and malnutrition together cause preventable child deaths every day. This project will provide mosquito nets, rapid malaria tests, treatment, and nutrition packs for children in poor rural communities. Timely action is needed to save lives as malaria cases rise during the rainy season and food shortages push more families into hunger.

Challenge

Malaria kills over 200,000 Nigerians each year, with children under five most at risk. Malnutrition weakens immunity, making children more likely to die from malaria. Many rural families cannot afford bed nets, medical care, or nutritious food. Clinics often run out of drugs, and parents resort to unsafe remedies. The combined burden of malaria and hunger keeps children in a cycle of illness and death. Without immediate help, preventable deaths will continue to rise.

Solution

This project will distribute mosquito nets, malaria test kits, and treatment to rural clinics while supplying nutrition packs to children at risk of hunger. Families will learn safe prevention and feeding practices through health talks. Clinics will receive drugs to manage malaria cases, while trained volunteers conduct regular check-ups for malnourished children. By directly reaching households and clinics, the project provides immediate protection and life-saving care for vulnerable children.

Long-Term Impact

Reducing child deaths from malaria and malnutrition will give families hope and stability. Fewer hospitalizations will ease pressure on rural clinics. Children who survive and regain strength are more likely to attend school and grow into healthy adults. Parents who see the benefits of nets and better feeding practices are more likely to continue using them. This creates lasting improvements in child survival, household health, and community strength in the years ahead.
