This project tackles Nigeria's high teenage pregnancy rate by removing the primary obstacle to a girl's future: poverty-driven school dropout. We provide comprehensive scholarships and mentorship, ensuring vulnerable girls stay in secondary school, a proven protective factor against early childbearing. By funding her education, we empower her with the knowledge, economic opportunity, and agency to choose her own future, breaking the inter-generational cycle of poverty and early motherhood.
Economic hardship is a key driver of teenage pregnancy in Nigeria. Impoverished families cannot afford secondary school fees, forcing girls out of the classroom and into vulnerable situations, where they are four times more likely to become pregnant before age 19. Early motherhood is the leading cause of death for girls aged 15-19 and shatters their educational and career prospects, perpetuating family poverty. Schooling is the best defense, yet it remains inaccessible to many.
We provide a comprehensive intervention focused on school retention: 1. Full Scholarships: Covering tuition, books, and uniforms for high-risk adolescent girls. 2. Mentorship & Life Skills: Pairing girls with female mentors for weekly sessions covering sexual and reproductive health (SRH), confidence, and negotiation skills. 3. Community Engagement: Working with parents and teachers to destigmatize SRH discussions and create a safe environment that encourages girls to complete their secondary ed
An educated girl is an economic powerhouse. Every additional year of schooling increases her adult earnings by up to 20%. By completing secondary school, a girl is significantly more likely to delay marriage, have fewer and healthier children, and invest 90% of her income back into her family. This creates a ripple effect of community development, reduces maternal and infant mortality, and elevates future generations out of extreme poverty.
