Sita, a young girl from a remote village in Nepal, faced numerous challenges growing up.
Limited access to education and healthcare, coupled with the threat of early marriage, made her future seem bleak. Her family, struggling with poverty, could not afford to send her to school or provide medical care.
Sita's family heard of Karuna's projects through a community meeting. Sita was enrolled in a local school that provided a safe and nurturing environment. Here, she not only received quality education but also life skills training, which boosted her confidence and self-esteem.
The project ensured that Sita received necessary medical care, including reproductive health services, which are often neglected in rural areas. There is still a stigma of impurity surrounding women's health which is slowly changing in our project areas.
Sita also took part in vocational training programmes, she gained skills that enabled her to earn a livelihood, contributing to her family’s income and gaining financial independence. This empowerment was a critical step towards achieving gender equality and allowing Sita to make her own life choices.
Today, Sita is a role model in her community. Her journey from a girl with limited opportunities to a confident, independent young woman showcases the transformative power of your vital support.
Through the continued support of people like you, Karuna aims to expand its reach, ensuring that more girls like Sita in Nepal have the opportunity to lead lives with autonomy and equality.
Thank you!
