Summary

Almost 50% of children in rural Guatemala suffer from malnutrition, leading to a lifetime of physical and cognitive stunting. Since 2009, our long-term training and mentoring Program has provided the skills and knowledge for 5,400+ families in 21 communities to sustainably produce their own nutritious food, raise healthy children, and increase incomes. Our Program is a proven solution for breaking the cycles of malnutrition, disease, and poverty that have plagued Guatemala for generations.

Challenge

Because the Seeds Program effectively combats malnutrition and disease, it's in high demand. We're currently in 21 communities across 8 states in rural Guatemala, with new communities continuing to apply for our training and resources. We need at least 12 new field team members to meet the demand. With the addition of new field team members, we'll be able to assist 240 families over the next year, dramatically improving their lives through better health and increased income opportunities.

Solution

With the new field team members, we'll provide long-term training for families to create their own nutritious food security, reduce chronic disease and illness, and increase incomes. New families enrolling in our Program receive one-on-one training and mentoring for 12 months. They're trained and equipped to produce permaculture gardens, learn small animal husbandry for vital protein, significantly increase their health through nutrition and health education, and create new income opportunities.

Long-Term Impact

Adding new team members allows us to brighten thousands of lives in hard-hit areas of rural Guatemala. Providing families and communities with our targeted training and resources empowers them to reliably improve their food security and health while increasing incomes. Since 2009, the Seeds Program has helped reduce chronic disease and illness while improving the quality of life for over 32,400 people, leading to generational change & resilience in underserved communities.
