- Strengthen information and communication around this poorly understood disease among the general public and healthcare staff in the Center region of Cameroon; - Strengthen advocacy with government actors and donors so that more attention and resources are given to the communication and care of endometriosis patients; - Create "endo friendly" spaces and a chain of solidarity and mutual aid between those affected.
The ignorance of the endometriosis by the population and by a part of the medical profession contributes to the diagnostic delay. One in 10 women worldwide suffers from this disease. One in 4 affected women has already had thoughts of suicide. Due to its multidimensional impacts, the management of endometriosis is complex and requires multidisciplinary collaboration as much for the treatment as for the psycho-social consequences of disease. We think to reach a little more than 200,000 women.
Communication is important in a context like that of endometriosis because they allow women and girls to quickly become aware of their own disease and could thus benefit from an opportunity to be followed in time. Through our communication sessions in schools, hospitals, medias and public events, we hope to raise awareness of this disease and attract the attention of all actors on the need to pay more attention to this disease which handicaps many women in our country.
Our project effectively aims to make endometriosis known as a disease on which several actors should address to relieve the suffering of thousands of women in Cameroon. In the long term, it is a question of facilitating a rapid diagnosis of this disease in more than 200.000 women, that the medical follow-up of these sick women be faster. In addition, we wish to arouse interest around this disease so that public and private actors help to allocate more resources to research in this field.
