Thanks to the joint work of Aleimar, our Congo responsible Francesco, and very generous donations, the target of transforming in a self-sufficient community the residence of Sisters in Sambwa where young girls study and live has become closer!
This Residence is a place of teaching and connection for 20 girls who have come from around Congo to learn. The insitution however wasn't furnished with a good working electricity engine, so that the girls had to pump water from the well and dind't have light to study at night.
Our aim was to install a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Residence. This goal is now very close! In fact, Francesco and a group of six helpers, will travel down to Africa middle June, so that electricity and running water won't be an option but a right! The aim is also to install a water system which goes beyond the rediences' walls, so that also the other inhabitants of the village will benefit from it.
The Sisters told us of how overjoyed they were, reminding us however that the team will have to wait that the rainy season comes to an end to start the work. The Sisters are also currently working at the construction of a surrounding wall for the insitution, to avoid attacks of any kind, also because the political situation in Congo has become very complicated recently, and safety is at the first place.
Aleimar has been helping as it can to ensure enought funds for the project, also participating at the GlobalGiving Renwable Energy Campaign which started the 20th of April, and is going to end on the 25th of May. Every donation the project gets will help supporting our girls in Congo, and can also be used for tax breaks.
We cross fingers that everything will go for its best and that Francesco and his team will report a succesfull journey!
