First aid training

In March, CAMELEON Youth Advocates (VCC, CYHA and Cirquera de CAMELEON) have been trained First Aiders by the Department of Health Emergency Management Staff under the Provincial Health Office. Youth Advocates and Cirquera de CAMELEON underwent a two-day First Aid and Basic Life Support Training to equip them with knowledge and skills in responding to emergency situations. This is done in preparation for their pursuit activities within CAMELEON and in the community.

Capacity-building activity

The CAMELEON Youth Advocates had a capacity-building activity to update and refresh their knowledge on CAMELEON’s advocacies including children’s rights, OSAEC, prevention of child sexual abuse, and teenage pregnancy. Through this training, the CYAs were able to learn various advocacy strategies and develop their skills in creating online content and maximizing social media platforms adapting to the “new normal.”

Women’s month celebration

Last March, 2023, CAMELEON Youth Advocates conducted a caravan for the Women’s Month Celebration at San Enrique, Iloilo. This is to recognize the continuous action for an inclusive society and honor the efforts and rights of Women. CAMELEON through our CYA believes that women have a huge contribution in empowering the community to prevent any forms of abuses against women and children.

“As one of the CAMELEON Youth Advocates, I served as the VCC President way back 2020, spreading awareness about children’s rights and responsibilities in the community. I also learned a lot through the various workshops and trainings CAMELEON provided and they proved to be essential now as I commence my professional career. Through CAMELEON, many children reached their dreams and helped so many families overcome systemic poverty. I know that someday our world will become safe and free from all kinds of abuse.”

Circus shows in Iloilo and Manila

Two extraordinay circus shows were held by our Cirquera “Breakthrough: Unfolding Stories of Hope and Transformation” on December 16-17 at Makati-Ayala Triangle to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between France and the Philippines and the 25th anniversary of CAMELEON Association. This show aims to showcase the transformative power of Cirquera de Cameleon and the rehabilitation efforts of Cameleon Association for girls who survived sexual abuse. Event organized in partnership with ENACR (Ecole Nationale des Arts du Cirque de Rosny-sous-Bois), Les Grandes Personnes, and the Embassy of France in the Philippines & to Micronesia with the support of the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs.

Together with the Cirquera de CAMELEON and Voice of CAMELEON's Children, the CAMELEON Youth Health Advocates initiated the first social circus in Agdayao, Passi City last February 25.
The CYHA and VCC conducted lectures in the first part of the program. CYHA talked about Sexual Intimacies, Dating and the Consequences of Teenage Pregnancy to their fellow youth. These topics were essential since it was reported that the cases of teenage pregnancy in Agdayao increased these previous months.
The children and teenagers were then taught basic circus tricks by the CDC. They had fun testing their balance, flexibility and focus from the activities that Cirquera de CAMELEON prepared for them.
CAMELEON Youth Health Advocates continues its endeavors in combating cases of teenage pregnancy and raising awareness about reproductive health.

Recognition awards for our youth advocates

The CAMELEON Youth Advocates (CYHA) attended the LYDC Passi Courtesy Call with Passi City Mayor and Year-end Meeting, January 5, 2023. Our Youth advocates, the VCC and CYHA, were recognized for their achievements as Outstanding Volunteers in showing an exemplary performance as youth organizations in promoting Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Mental Health and Adolescent Reproductive Health Awareness, and Teenage Pregnancy Prevention.

Raising-awareness activities

The CAMELEON Youth Advocates had their first school advocacy lecture in partnership with Red Cross Youth at Iloilo City National High School in Molo, Iloilo City. The Cameleon Youth Health Advocates (CYHA) caught the attention of the students when they talked about Dating, contraception, the demonstration of condoms, etc. Meanwhile, the Voice of Cameleon’s Children has given a chance to share about personal safety through a short but fun and informative activity participated by the active students of ICNHS. Indeed, it was a great and meaningful day where a lot of students learned most especially how to protect and secure themselves in life-threatening situations like abuse, violence and teenage pregnancy.

Together with the Voice of CAMELEON's Children, they participated in the Usap Tayo: Youth Leadership Program, where they were able to impart their mission through topics such as the reproductive health, dating do's and don'ts and sexual intimacies, teenage pregnancy awareness as well as STI, STDs and contraception. The advocates had fun exchanging ideas with their fellow youths.
