Engaging youth in awareness for children's rights

CAMELEON is committed to empowering young people to become active agents of change in child protection and health education. Through the “Engaging Youth in Awareness for Children’s Rights” program, we provide opportunities for youth to develop leadership skills and advocate for children’s rights in the communities.

Highlights from our Youth Advocates and Cirquera de CAMELEON:

In June and July, CAMELEON Philippines held an exchange of good practices with CAMELEON France. The delegation included two Youth Advocates, two Cirquera de CAMELEON and two staff members—four of whom are former inspiring beneficiaries of CAMELEON programs. They engaged in activities with the French team, Youth Ambassadors, partners, sponsors, and volunteers, strengthening collaboration between CAMELEON Philippines and France. This exchange reinforced our shared commitment to child protection advocacy and the fight against abuse toward women and children.

In August, the CAMELEON Social Circus led interventions in partner schools in Iloilo, reaching over 200 participants, including children, students, youth, and adults. Led by both the Cirquera de CAMELEON and the Youth Advocates, this innovative approach raises awareness on child sexual abuse, online exploitation, children’s rights, and reproductive health.

In October, at least 120 students from Bingawan National High School and Bulabog Integrated School actively participated in the CAMELEON Social Circus. Through engaging and creative activities, the participants did not only have fun but also learned about children’s rights, online safety, and reproductive health while building confidence, teamwork, and self-expression.

Looking ahead:

This month, at least four more Social Circus activities are planned. The Health Day celebration on October 28^th will involve selected Youth Advocates who will assist in facilitating the activities, allowing them to apply their skills while inspiring their peers and fellow beneficiaries.

The annual Recognition of Cirquera de CAMELEON and CAMELEON Youth Advocates is scheduled for November. This event serves as an official recognition ceremony, honoring their unwavering commitment, dedication, hard work, and volunteerism in advancing CAMELEON’s mission and vision. Their efforts, particularly in promoting awareness on children’s rights acknowledges their contributions but also marks a significant milestone in their journey as young leaders, advocates and actors of change.
