Challenge

According to Global Vulnerability Assessment Report 2013, China has the highest number of disasters happening in the past 10 years, not to mention the COVID19 outbreak this year. The assessment conducted among over 100 NGOs shows that disaster practitioners are ill equipped without the required professional knowledge and skills on humanitarian assistance, lack of the capacity to identify the needs of affected population, to design and implement context-based intervention activities.

Solution

The project will develop and localize humanitarian training modules, technical standards and tools, and providing correspondent trainings to key staff of 50 NGOs active in disaster relief so as to improve their professional capacity in humanitarian and resilience work. The project plans to work with multiple partners to localize 16 humanitarian and resilience online training modules and deliver two rounds of online training, each round 4 months, to key staff from 50 front-line NGOs in 2021.

Long-Term Impact

This project will improve the knowledge and skills for 50 key staff from 50 NGOs active in disaster relief. It will enhance effectiveness and coordination for disaster relief actions of 50 NGOs, which helps them to play an increasingly active and effective role in responding to various disasters and meeting the needs of affected and vulnerable people in China. The online training will also be continued and create a pool of humanitarian professionals in a long run.
