Over the past planning period, we finalized every component required for a smooth start-up. This includes stakeholder engagement with the State Ministry of Health and hospital leadership, partnership agreements with three accredited laboratories for newborn genotype testing, and the development of a clear sample logistics protocol. We have also prepared our Community Health Worker recruitment and training framework, and built the Records Management System that will track screening, vaccination, and outreach data.
All servicedelivery workflows including newborn screening at facilities, 72hour lab reporting, and enhanced vaccination during clinic days for confirmed cases have been fully mapped and integrated into the project schedule. Cold chain procedures, radio outreach plans, antenatal education sessions, and monitoring and evaluation processes are also ready for implementation.
In summary: the project is ready to begin immediately. The only remaining barrier is funding. With additional donor support, we can activate the full plan and begin providing lifesaving pneumococcal and meningococcal vaccines to vulnerable sickle cell infants across the three LGAs.
Your contribution at this stage directly accelerates the start of lifesaving work. Thank you for standing with us.
