Over the past few months, our efforts to bring the Open Olive Oil Academy to a new region have moved from exploration to concrete conversations. After looking at several areas of Greece with strong local interest, we are now in discussions with a potential funder who has expressed interest in contributing to this initiative in Crete, and we are encouraged by the progress made so far.
This interest is a strong signal of the value of practical, accessible training for olive growers, and of the need to bring the Academy to more regions across Greece.
The implementation of the Academy in Crete is planned to take place within 2027, provided the necessary resources are secured. We will share more details on the timeline, training topics, and participating areas as soon as they are finalized.
We will build on the results achieved so far. Between 2024 and 2025, two Academies were implemented, in Arcadia and Messinia, reaching more than 80 olive growers with over 100 hours of theoretical and experiential training. More than 200 olive growers also took part in two events focused on the sustainability of the olive-growing sector, and the program produced the Practical Olive Growing Guide. These results show how practical, accessible training can strengthen the skills and resilience of olive-growing communities.
