This Project aims to address the chronic water scarcity faced by residents of Aparis village by developing and improving infrastructure for water access. The organization is working to improve access to safe water and reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases like diarrhea and typhoid, which are caused by reliance on contaminated, distant, and broken water sources. (Water scarcity is already a material issue - over 10 years now). Help is urgently required.
Health Crisis: The lack of safe water has caused a rise in waterborne diseases, including diarrhea and typhoid. Daily Struggles: Residents, particularly women and girls, must undertake long, daily treks to secure water. Education Impact: Shortages contribute to high rates of school absenteeism, especially among girls who may be tasked with water collection. Poverty Link: Limited access to clean water is identified as a factor contributing to the community's poverty and lack of resources.
The Project (vetted by GlobalGiving since 2014) is working on several interventions: Boreholes and Hand Pumps: Installing new machinery to access deep, clean groundwater. Protected Wells & Springs: Utilizing concrete rings to secure natural water sources from contamination. Rainwater Harvesting: Capturing rain for domestic use to reduce reliance on unsafe sources.
Local efforts, supported by external partnerships, focus on enhancing resilience through community-led management of water resources, ensuring that women and girls are involved in water management decisions. Long-Term Infrastructure: Plans include the installation of sustainable, solar-powered water systems.
