Kumi district has been known for its problem of water scarcity for a long time. This is partly due to the low water table and the presence of the basement rock which presents difficulty in abstracting and developing ground water sources.
Aparis village - Kumi District in Uganda faces a severe clean water crisis, driven by reliance on contaminated, distant, and often broken, unsafe water sources. This scarcity has led to a rise in waterborne diseases (diarrhea, typhoid), significant school absenteeism among girls, and long daily treks for water, particularly in rural areas. Resident's are forced to use unsafe water points, causing high risk's.
By providing:- 1. Boreholes and Hand Pumps: Using machinery to access deep, cleaner groundwater. 2. Protected Wells & Springs: Utilizing concrete rings to protect shallow wells and securing natural springs to prevent contamination. 3. Rainwater Harvesting: Capturing rain for domestic use, which is effective for reducing reliance on contaminated groundwater. 4. Piped Water Systems: Implementing small-scale.
Planned efforts include the installation of solar-powered, sustainable, and reliable water systems as well as Global Giving Donations, partners to increase access and reduce reliance on contaminated sources. Gender and Equality: Ensuring women and girls have input in water management and reduced time burdens for collection.
