Caring for Street Children

Serving Meals at the Day Centre

Hi. Thank you so much for your financial support for Kimbilio's work with children forced to live on the streets of Lubumbashi in the DRC. In particular, your support has enabled the staff team of carers to be able to afford to buy sufficient quantities of food to feed these children, even though the costs have risen sharply. With its low level of food production, the DRC is reliant on imports. The price of flour is rising due to shortages in neighbouring Zambia, which provides the DRC with most of its flour.

In 2024, we saw an average of 38 boys and nine girls visit the Day Centre in Lubumbashi every day that it was open and, in addition to providing the children with a good meal, the staff team gave medical assistance as the children often sustain knocks and bruises in the rough world of the streets. It is sad to see how young some of the children are - often of junior school age and so vulnerable on the streets. The work to identify the family of each of these children is a vital part of our work, so that we can negotiate the safe return of the child to a family member.

Thabk you for your support
