Meet Serawit and her friends, who are now able to access clean water thanks to the recently implemented rainwater harvesting tank, supported by Orbis in 2023.
Clean water is essential for children's health, yet many in Ethiopia lack access, leaving them vulnerable to diseases like trachoma. Rainwater harvesting systems offer a sustainable solution, guaranteeing schools and communities a reliable source of clean water. A single rainwater harvesting system can provide clean water to over 500 schoolchildren, which is crucial for upholding proper hygiene practices and curbing the spread of diseases.
Orbis is working in Chencha since 2008, where the prevalence of active trachoma was once nearly 30%. The most recent Trachoma Impact Survey, conducted in 2022, showed a significant decrease of over 20% in prevalence.
